Dr Jesse Bossé, D.Ps. C.Psych
Pronouns: They/Them
I obtained a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) and I am a member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) and l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ). My work is informed by an understanding of power dynamics, social exclusion, stereotypes, and marginalization.
My personal experience as a queer person, combined with my clinical experience working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, highlighted the necessity of addressing the political and social determinants of health and the dynamics of power and oppression at play in our societies in order to adequately support clients and to provide mental health services more safely. This approach allows me to better understand, rather than pathologize, the reality of people facing systemic oppression.
Values and Approach
I adopt a queer-positive, gender-affirming, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach to mental health and wellbeing. My practice is sex-positive, kink and poly-friendly, and adopts an anti-diet, Fat liberation and Health at Every Size approach to the body. Informed consent and bodily autonomy are guiding principles at the core of my work.
As a white settler, I engage in regular personal and professional work to ensure I address and deconstruct the racism and colonialism in myself.
Community Involvement, Advocacy & Volunteer Work
In recognizing how the quality of life and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are greatly affected by widespread discrimination, I believe my work extends beyond the confines of the psychologist’s office. Beside my clinical work, I am involved at multiple levels in advancing the rights of gender diverse individuals. I have played an advisory role in initiatives aimed at improving healthcare, integrating better practices in inclusive care, and developing educational initiatives and I am actively contributing to the advancement of gender-affirming healthcare, the promotion of inclusive policies and practices, and working towards creating a more educated and supportive environment for gender diverse individuals.
